At Palace Court, Cohanim was appointed to resolve deterioration and structural damage affecting the historic front boundary wall and a principal masonry pier.
The apparently modest scale of the intervention concealed a more complex conservation problem. Existing masonry, decorative stone, iron railings, retained ground, foundations and mature trees all occupy a constrained frontage within the Bayswater Conservation Area.
Cohanim developed a repair strategy based around careful dismantling and reinstatement rather than replacement, allowing historic fabric and architectural character to be retained wherever practicable.
Listed Building Consent 26/01904/LBC was granted by Westminster City Council in May 2026 for dismantling and reinstating the damaged wall and pier. The consent requires matching materials and construction, a brickwork sample panel and an agreed conservation method statement. Westminster also specifically highlighted the protection required for trees within the Conservation Area.
Cohanim's role has subsequently extended into tender and construction preparation: historic balustrades are to be tagged and reinstated, masonry repaired in lime, decorative elements conserved and the rebuilt retaining pier coordinated with foundations and temporary works. Contract preparation, tender support and construction-stage project management form part of the continuing commission.
