We thrive in adversity
Cohanim Architecture is an RIBA Chartered Practice (20020793) based in London and Henley-on-Thames and working across private civic, government, residential, corporate, ecclesiastical and hospitality sectors. A great deal of our strategic work is for sites which are challenged by challenging constraints, namely: Grade I, II* and II listed buildings, Conservation Areas, security considerations, planning policy limitations, Green Belt, arboricultural issues among other. We thrive in delivering schemes that respond to these challenging constraints through ingenuity and relentless curiosity.
Projects that we thrive in deliving are those that have a history of refusals and dismissed Appeals or another particularly challenging constraint. This is what excites me. We have a special combination of tenacity, creativity and work ethic to deliver them.
Striving for growth.
We do not shy away from encouraging growth. We teach our junior staff to strive for more - professionally, for our clients, and for themselves. We believe the most genuinely sustainable outcomes are achieved when all parties prosper, and that through intelligent decision-making, long-term strategic planning and regular brainstorming, this is attainable in most situations.
It follows that when our clients speak with us, they quickly pick up on this drive to add value - both through design and in quantifiable terms. They often entrust us to think outside the box and to do exactly that. Many of our clients bring us repeat business not only because we are personable, welcoming and professional, but because we do not work in an architectural silo.
We are a team of ten but lead integrated teams of over 25 multidisciplinary professionals on prestigious and demanding sites - acting as the single point of our contact for diplomatic clientele. This necessitates a relentless focus on delivery and a driven studio that can lead and work with a far larger project team.
Small enough to know by first name
Joshua Harrison leads the practice , with Michael and Anderson leading design strategy together. We are supported by an array of architects, assistants and designers including BIM fluent personnel. We operate an open door policy and there are no ivory towers in our practice.
I have been working with Cohanim Architecture over a period of 24 months between education. They have invited me to continue with a full year of professional work experience - this has enhanced my professional knowledge and growth tremendously. I am entrusted with mentorship, the latest software and exposure to high-quality projects. I enjoy working here because: • I am learning a variety of different skills and there are lots of opportunities to learn about architecture and how it groups lots of different profession together; • I also enjoy that everyone is patient and willing to explain their jobs so i have a better understanding of the day-to-day work within the practice; • I have always wanted to be a architect since I was very young. I can see how my focus on maths and physics is incorporated in architecture and I am very greatful for this oportunity for my dream to be realised in real projects.
