Appeal success against Harrow Council

We are delighted to have won an Appeal for our Client in respect of their property in Harrow seeking change of use to comprise facilities accommodating the Hindu faith. The property has been the subject of a multi-pronged planning strategy and this was the definitive decision following approvals for various other proposals won by us on the same site but not involving change of use. The Appeal was successful in the face of comprehensive opposition from councillors, the Case Officer and their Team Lead. We typically build, foster and maintain positive relationships with local authorities, however this proved a unusually challenging case and also involved no less than four Case Officers, unwarranted and vehement opposition from local community groups, multiple call-ins to committee among other stories – our client relied on us to support and spearhead the project from start to finish. Works commence on site 2024.

Cohanim Architecture secured a successful planning appeal on behalf of a client in respect of their property in Harrow, following a proposal to change the use of the site to comprise facilities accommodating the Hindu faith. The appeal formed the definitive decision in a wider, multi-pronged planning strategy for the site, following earlier approvals the practice had already secured for other proposals on the same property that did not involve a change of use.

The application proved an unusually challenging case, involving no fewer than four separate case officers over the course of the process. The proposal met with comprehensive opposition, including from councillors, the case officer and their team lead, as well as vehement objection from local community groups, and was called in to committee on multiple occasions before being resolved at appeal.

While Cohanim Architecture typically builds and maintains positive working relationships with local planning authorities, this case required the practice to support and lead the project from start to finish on behalf of its client. Works on site were reported to commence in 2024.
